Skin Journal Privacy Policy
Effective 10 August 2026
This policy explains how the Skin Journal Android app handles information when you use its photo journal, AI skin-analysis and Google Play subscription features.
Information handled by the app
- Photos, routine products and notes: saved journal entries remain on your device. When you request AI analysis, the selected photo, product names and note are sent securely to the Skin Journal backend and to OpenAI to produce the analysis.
- Usage information: AI analysis requires an active Premium subscription or free trial. To enforce the Premium daily limit, the backend stores the date, account tier, analysis count and a one-way hash of the Google Play purchase token.
- Subscription information: the app stores the Google Play purchase token in secure storage on your device and sends it to the backend. The backend sends it to Google Play only to verify subscription status and does not store the raw token in the usage database.
- AI safety reports: if you report an AI result as inaccurate or unsafe, the backend stores the report category, the text of that AI result and a one-way report-token hash. The associated photo, products and personal note are not stored with the report.
How information is used
Information is used only to provide requested AI analysis, save your journal locally, enforce the Premium daily limit, verify subscription or trial access, prevent misuse and maintain the service. Skin Journal does not sell personal information or use it for advertising.
Service providers
- OpenAI processes photos and the accompanying routine context to generate the requested analysis. Requests disable optional response storage. OpenAI may still retain abuse-monitoring logs for up to 30 days under its standard API data controls.
- Render hosts the backend and PostgreSQL usage database.
- Google Play processes purchases and provides subscription verification.
Retention and deletion
The Skin Journal backend does not intentionally retain submitted photos, product names, notes or AI results after completing a request, unless you choose to report an AI result. AI safety reports and usage-limit records are automatically removed after 90 days. You can delete individual journal entries from the Photos tab. Uninstalling the app removes its remaining locally stored journal data, subject to your device and backup settings.
Security and your choices
Data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. You decide whether to select a photo and request analysis. AI results are estimates for routine tracking and are not medical advice or a diagnosis.
Children
Skin Journal is not directed to children under 13.
Contact
For privacy questions or deletion requests, contact the developer using the App support contact shown on Skin Journal's Google Play listing. Because the app has no user accounts, include only the minimum information needed to handle your request.
Changes to this policy
This page may be updated when the app or its service providers change. The effective date above will be updated when material changes are made.
